Hakuren Sou (白蓮 荘) is a small, Shikoku based kennel located in Japan. However we have a love for the Japanese breeds and can't help ourselves. But our main focus is the Shikoku Ken. We strive for the healthiest and soundest of Shikoku Ken, working very closely with other famous Japanese Kennels to breed as true to the original Shikoku as possible.

The Shikoku Ken  is a primitive hunting dog from the Japanese island of Shikoku. It is the rarest and most primitive of the Japanese breeds. It resembles a wolf, and legend has it that the breed has some wolf blood. This belief probably arose mainly from the dog’s appearance, and from the fact that the wolf is thought to have survived longer on the island of Shikoku than elsewhere in Japan. Bred to hunt deer and boar in remote areas of the Shikoku mountains, this tenacious and agile dog thrives with plenty of activity.  When indoors, the Shikoku displays the calm reserve characteristic of the Japanese breeds.  They have a strong sense of loyalty and will form a close bond with their family.
